Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
Sauce
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional for extra flavor)
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger or fresh minced ginger
- Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish (optional)
- Chopped green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, vinegar, ground or fresh ginger, salt, and pepper. Whisk well to create a smooth, flavorful sauce.
- Add the chicken to the slow cooker: Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs evenly at the bottom of the slow cooker, ensuring they lay flat to cook evenly.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the chicken, making sure the meat is completely coated to absorb all the flavors as it cooks.
- Cook the chicken: Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook the chicken on low heat for 4 to 6 hours, or on high heat for 2 to 3 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender enough to shred with a fork.
- Serve the chicken: Once cooked, remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it if desired. Stir the sauce inside the cooker to mix and then drizzle it over the shredded or whole chicken when plating.
- Optional garnish: Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top of the served chicken to add brightness, crunch, and extra flavor.
Notes
- This recipe works well with either chicken breasts or thighs; thighs will be more tender and juicy, while breasts are leaner.
- For a thicker sauce, you may remove the chicken after cooking and reduce the sauce on the stovetop by simmering it.
- If you prefer less sweetness, reduce the honey amount slightly.
- Serve over steamed rice or noodles to make a complete meal.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently to preserve moisture.
