Strawberry Sauce Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir well to evenly coat the strawberries with sugar.
- Cook Strawberries: Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes until the strawberries soften and release their juices, creating a natural syrup.
- Thicken Sauce (Optional): If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then stir it into the saucepan. Continue to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Adjust Consistency: Remove the sauce from heat. For a chunky texture, leave the sauce as is; for a smoother texture, mash the strawberries with a spoon or blend briefly using an immersion blender or regular blender.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the strawberry sauce to cool slightly before serving. Use it to top pancakes, waffles, ice cream, yogurt, or desserts.
Notes
- Adjust sugar according to the sweetness of your strawberries or your taste preference.
- For a completely smooth sauce, blend thoroughly and strain if desired.
- Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- This sauce can also be frozen for longer storage.
