Ingredients
Scale
For the Burger Bowls
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced pickles
- 1/4 cup diced red onion
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
For the Caramelized Onion Aioli
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the Caramelized Onion Aioli: Melt butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the finely chopped yellow onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely. In a bowl, combine the caramelized onions with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Cook the Ground Beef: Season the ground beef with salt and black pepper, then form into small patties or simply crumble. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the beef for about 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally or turning patties, until browned and fully cooked through.
- Assemble the Bowls: Divide the chopped romaine lettuce evenly among four serving bowls. Top each bowl with the cooked ground beef, halved cherry tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, sliced pickles, diced red onion, and avocado slices.
- Add the Aioli and Serve: Drizzle or dollop the prepared caramelized onion aioli over each burger bowl just before serving for a creamy, flavorful finish.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or plant-based meat alternatives if preferred.
- The caramelized onion aioli can be made up to a day ahead and refrigerated.
- For extra flavor, consider adding cooked bacon, sautéed mushrooms, or a fried egg to your bowls.
