Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Marinade
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
Vegetables and Aromatics
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Seasoning and Cooking
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (more to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Optional: green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, freshly ground black pepper, and cornstarch mixed with water until smooth. Set aside.
- Cook the chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook for about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté the vegetables: In the same pan, add the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Combine and finish: Return the cooked chicken to the pan and pour the prepared sauce over the ingredients. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the chicken evenly.
- Adjust seasoning and serve: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning by adding more black pepper or salt if desired. Serve hot over steamed rice and garnish with green onions if using.
Notes
- You can substitute chicken thighs with chicken breast if preferred.
- Add broccoli or snap peas for extra vegetables and nutritional value.
- For extra heat, include a pinch of red pepper flakes while cooking.
